Table and chairs? Having bought a new table and chairs Christmas week, we had a dinner party. A glass of red wine was accidentally spilt which immediately soaked into the wooden table top,Do I have any legal rights here, or what can I do?
It has nothing to do withing suing anyone , I thought maybe it should have had a " finish" to prevent this kind of stain, after all it is for constant use of wear , or has anyone ideas on how to remove the stains? Thanks anyway.. jackie n replied: "not unless you had insurance on it were you bought it or you have separate house and content insurance of your own. but you cannot sue the company that sold you the furniture as it wasnt there fault the only one you can sue is the person that spilt the wine and as you said it was an accident so you should have house and content insurance of your own"
G W replied: "Legal rights for what ? Do you want to sue the person who spilled the wine? Do you want to sue the store who sold you the table and chairs? Do you want to sue the Winemaker ? Why ? How is it their responsibility ?
You can do any or all of these, if you so choose."
SK replied: "Unfortunately you cant claim as this can be refered to as your own negligence. Surf the net for an advice. I'm sure someone else did this is the past and got help. Good Luck."
Lady Girl replied: "Depends on if they included a description that it has a finish when it was sold. Also if you inspected the table beforehand - it could had been 'sold as seen' in which case there would be little redress.
Furniture should naturally be durable and last a considerable length of time, (they call it reasonable), so it's possible you may have a claim. Contact where you got it from and explain the situation. Or you may wish to try trading standards first if you reside in the UK." What is the best toddler table and chairs set? I want to get my son a table and chairs set for his birthday. Which would be best and what are the cutest? Also have you seen the new Live action Elmo? Would that freak out your baby? I think it would my son! Jennifer K replied: "Check out Fisher Price and Step Two. They have some really nice sturdy tables and chairs that are easy to keep clean. I wouldn't go with the little tables that have two fold up chairs, they are really rickety.
My almost 3 year old loves this years Elmo doll. But she doesn't scare easily." How do I paint a table and chairs white? I need to paint a table and some chairs white, i'm pretty sure they're wood. It's my first time and I'm doing it for someone else so I really don't want to fuck up. Could someone please explain how I could do this efficiently without messing up?
edit*** I don't think I will be able to spray paint, the supplies given to me will most likely be a paint brush and some white paint. •Vanessa• replied: "use spray paint. make sure to add newspaper all over the floor to not mess it up. of course, you sound like you don´t know much of what youre doing so i would suggest getting a proffesional to do it. also wear mouth covers, those chemicals are bad for you" Is it easy to refinish and restain a dining room table and chairs? I have a dining room table and chairs that is in good shape I just want to restain it to an espresso stain is it possible? Brutally Honest replied: "If they're made of good SOLID wood (as opposed to veneers), then yes it would be possible. It won't necessarily be easy however. It can be time consuming, hard, dirty, tedious work. But if you're up for it, the results will make you glad you undertook the project.
Go to your local library and get a book on how to do it. Or look online for step-by-step instructions.
I would recommend that you use MinWax products...they are the very best and easiest to use."
phatsajak replied: "i'm assuming there is a clear-coat on your current table. that would prevent the new stain from penetrating the wood. you can strip it off, but what a chore. if you miss any, it will only show with a very blotchy coverage of the new stain. minwax does make a stain/polyurethane clear coat. i've done this on a few projects that i wanted stained darker. just clean the table n chairs really well with tsp, scuff it a bit (tiny bit) with a very fine grain sandpaper, and brush on a couple coats of the tinted polyurethane. home depot and lowes carry it. it's not as elegant as a normal stain job because it hides the grain of the wood, but it looks like stained wood nonetheless. or you can send it to a furniture restorer to refinish it, but you might as well just buy a set in that color, cost would be similar. good luck."
Fisherman replied: "yes but you will have to remove the polyeurethane sealer for the stain to have any effect
plus when doing so you will most likely remove some of the existing stain leading to uneven staining
(breath) therfore the you must strip to naked wood to achieve good results
I would charge well over 2000$ depending on intricacy of wood,#of chairs etc.
it does'nt make sense unless you are determined and have alot of time and also experience in refinishing wood
for amount of time and cost you could sell yours at a garage sale then go out and buy an espresso set you like
good luck and do your research"
Glenn B replied: "No it isn't that easy, but it can be done. You will have to sand to remove some but not all of the top coats. Sanding will also create a surface for the stain to bite into. It is okay to "cut thru" any existing stain. I would recommend using ZAR stain. This can be applied with a soft cloth and will minimize any blotching. 3 hours dry time. Top coat with ZAR Wipe on poly(Virtually fool proof). I would do at least 3 coats of top coat. ..."
Robert M replied: "I you do not have experiance in this area you can ruin the furniture.
You have to remove all the finish from all the cut and carved places. Most finising shops dip the pieces in vats to remove the finishes.
It is vert difficult ot do at home"
lee b replied: "if its varnish no
if its only stained yes simply sand lightly then apply stain" What color paint goes with a red table and chairs? I have a red table with metal legs and matching chairs in great shape from 1948. We want to put it in our kitchen. We don't want plain white walls, but we are not sure what coolr to paint them. The cabinets are a light brown. gbcopy replied: "How about a golden yellow, or aqua, or a soft green?"
My Three replied: "I would go with earthy colors. I think you are smart to get off the white wall idea. Good luck in making your home look hot."
Lima Bean replied: "I would paint your walls a lite shade of yellow. This looks nice with bright red. Then you can find other red accents to put around your kitchen. They sell some red nob cabinet fixtures at Lowe's."
happybidz2003 replied: "Pale yellow, ivory, cream, a very light sage green, beige, egg shell, there are lots of very pale colors on the paint range that will go well with your table. Check in the paint department at your local home improvement store."
fisherman replied: "In color science, two colors are called complementary if, when mixed they produce a shade of grey (including white). In most perceptual color models, white is towards the center of the color space, and complementary colors will lie roughly opposite each other. The clearest example is the HSV color space, in which complementary colors lie opposite each other on the wheel (or on any circular cross-section).
In most discussions of complementary color, only fully saturated, bright colors are considered. However, under the formal definition, brightness and saturation are also factors. Thus, in the formal CIE 1931 color space, any color of a particular dominant wavelength can be balanced to create white/grey by adding a particular amount (i.e. brightness) of the complementary wavelength, or a different amount of less saturated versions of the complementary wavelength.

Anna R replied: "How about Yellow or Green?
There are some really cute plaids that have red, yellow, green and tan that you could incorporate into curtains, placemats, etc.
There are a couple of plaids below...they have some bright colors which would be GREAT and BRIGHT for your kitchen."
k h replied: "I know you don't want white but, I'm afraid that all that's really going to work. Perhaps, one wall or section in red to match the table. Or, white walls with a boarder that has red in it. You could cover the wall with that brick or stone that's made for walls. It's real easy to do. Here's one more suggestion paint the walls white and use lots of pictures with red in them with black frames and red matting. Hope this helps."
fotnek replied: "royal blue, or black"
Michelle L replied: "sage or moss green."
Kira replied: "A chocolate brown or a pecan. Or you could go with black and white stripes since u are bold enough to have red furniture. stripes are easy, just get some painters tape."
Dennis R replied: "blue and white would look great. Try painting your largest wall with a royal blue. This would be a great accent and then I think you would like using white."
Allergic To Eggs replied: "hey maddie. i vote ivory beige or some kind of blue or yellow. maybe a muted color like caramel it depends on the mood you are trying to create of course. and as i tell most everyone here, invest in large paint chips (18"x18") ....they are like 4 dollars each but they give you a good sense of color on an expanse. (if you dont want to spend on chips use a solid bath towel or solid fabric because color truly needs to be seen on an expanse.) looking at those little free chips can be deceiving and costly and aggravating. remember nowadays stores like Lowe's offer color matching with a scanner gun and a paint computer. you just have to bring in your sample, the larger the better. have fun"
chillin replied: "With the style of your table and chairs I would think that you would want to capitalize on the 50's style theme with blacks, whites and reds. I envision a black and white checked floor, juke boxes, Betty Boob, I Love Lucy, neon lights, 50's cars, records, etc. You know, a Diner Look. Or, maybe that isn't what you are after.
If you really do not want the white walls though, use a beige that would compliment your cabinetry. If you want them to stand out, use a lighter shade. If you want them to be less emphasized, use a darker shade.
You do not mention what your counter top or flooring is so, it is a little harder to pull the room together without knowing. You also do not mention if the kitchen is small, light filled or a darker space. So, consider all of these when choosing your color. For a dark, northern kitchen, choose a warmer hue. For a light, southern kitchen, choose a cooler hue. The reason being: a southern exposed, sunny room lends itself to a hot feel, so therefore, a cooler hue would balance.
Sometimes it is easier to pick up an inspiration piece, say what you may be adding to the walls and then blend a color from that. For instance, if you hang a neon clock with aquas or greens, it could be that. Green is the compliment of red.
The Grey family would go with the chrome, but, I don't know about your cabinets.
Good luck. You'll have a great retro kitchen."

My dog has chewed all the rubber stoppers off the legs of my card table and chairs, instead of paying fora new set, does anyone know where I can buy replacements and what exactly they are called? lolly replied: "At the hardware store. They also have felt circles with adhesive, that sounds better so your dog doesn't just chew up the new ones." I have an antique table and chairs from Virtue Brothers of California, does anyone know what it is worth? The table is a glass top with cast iron base. The whole thing weighs a lot. The chairs have a gothic feel. Is their a web site or anything that has these sort of things? breecienc replied: "A good way to get an idea is to go to Ebay.com and type it in and see what others are going for...
I hope you find your answer!" hi any one have an idea on how to make a toadstill/mushroom looking table and chairs for kid? hiya i am making a fantasy theme backyard for our kids and wanted to make a toadstill/mushroom looking table and chairs/stools for them to sit at ( like the ones in the fairy tales), wondering how to do it cheaply ie: concrete? or wood? etc. thanks for your time. Robert S replied: "IF you have space to store them under cover during the winter or stormy months... I would go with getting a LARGER wire spool of the sort from the telephone company for the table, and smaller ones for the chairs.
They're already round and of the correct proportion!! Carefully cut foam on the seats, with fabric stretched and stapled would make the seats look more "mushroomy" You'd have to go with LESS of a lump on the table, but with creative-painting and some sort of reveal you could match the chairs.
Did this for indoor use as props for "Princess and the Pea" at a childrens theater production" Where is a good place to buy a dining room table and chairs? I need a medium size mahogany colored dining room table and and chairs...everything just seems way too expensive..anyone know of a place or website with good prices? dghggh replied: "Craigslist.com. With the foreclosure crisis and people just generally losing money, a lot of people are selling their stuff on there. Including some awesome furniture. You can also post what you're looking for."
Amare replied: "Maybe a thrift store or a used furniture store. ( I am only assuming you are looking for inexpensive furniture.)"
crftybrd replied: "I love Ikea for variety and quality for the price. Their web site is pretty complete with what's available in their store. I know they ship items within a certain mile radius. Check out their website, Ikea.com" I need to paint a dining table and chairs. what finish paint should i purchase? I'm looking to paint my old dining table and chairs white. What type of paint should i use? and should I sand it or do anything before painting? It's pure wood. Effem Tee2 replied: "I like milk paint. A nice Barn Red would be cool. And the chairs in a Glossy Black."
? replied: "Make sure the surfaces are clean and smooth, (so you may have to sand some). Use good quality gloss enamel. spray it on or brush it. Repeat..." |
